I Love this Commercial

Current Mood:
CC is listening to: an episode of Law and Order

I laugh so much every time I see this commercial, mostly because it's happened to me a couple of times and I end up picking up plastic containers off the floor :-).

G.I. Joe and Team America

Current Mood:
CC is listening to: An episode of Angel

I know that the movie Team America: World Police was created in 2004 to parody movies like G.I. Joe, but it was really funny to us that G.I. Joe, which was released a full 5 years later, had scenes that were eerily similar :-).

The Paris scene in Team America

The Paris scene in GI Joe

As soon as the Eiffel Tower fell, Steve and I both mimicked the line from Team America: "Don't worry, everything is bon!"

We were even looking for Team America's cliché mime and bakery elements in GI Joe...and FOUND them!

Another element we found and kept laughing about:

And at the ending scene of GI Joe, when the desert sand parts and the aircraft launches, it's almost impossible to keep yourself from singing, "America, {bleep} yeah!"

Team America. Absolutely genius :-).

Impromptu Musical Saturday

Current Mood:
CC is listening to: The Wanderer--Jim Chappell (Over the Top)

Saturday turned out to be an impromptu, musical day for me :-).   On Friday Steve came home with a page from the paper's Friday "what's-going-on-in-entertainment-this-week" flyer.  The Rippingtons were performing at the New Daisy Theater on Beale Street!

My brother Noel introduced me to The Rippingtons' music a few years ago and since then I've loved listening to them :-).  They've been around since 1986.  Heck Kenny G used to be a part of The Rippingtons :-).

They have seventeen albums to date (eighteen if you want to count their "Best of" CD). Listening to a Rippingtons album is like listening to a soundtrack of a specific place or event. My favorite one is Topaz--it's set in New Mexico and there is definitely a Southwestern flavor to the compositions: a wooden flute here, Spanish guitar there, there was even an eagle's cry at the beginning of one composition. It definitely brings up images of wide, rocky, orange landscapes. It's both a Spanish and Native American sound at the same time.

So naturally I had to get two tickets for Steve and me to see them Saturday night.

And then early Saturday morning I found out that the Germantown Performing Arts Center's Iris Orchestra had a show that night. And that usually means they have a rehearsal at 10am Saturday morning, which the general public can see for $10.  It doesn't usually matter to me what they're playing, it's just a really cool treat to be able to sit down in a theater and listen to them play.  I usually take some light work with me, but I always end up putting it down and just watch them instead :-).

So that was my Saturday: watch the orchestra practice in the morning, then watch a jazz concert at night :-).

Steve and I took pictures.

I was also able to capture a clip of them playing "Spirits of the Canyon," which is from their Topaz album :-). It shows just how talented all the musicians are :-). Sorry it stops after 4 minutes; my arm was getting tired :-D.

Updates? Not Much...

Current Mood:
CC is listening to: Night Fever--the Bee Gees (Tales from the Brothers Gibb)

No reason for the disco dancing emoticon other than that I'm listening to the Bee Gees...plus I'm hopped up on coffee :-).

I wish I could say I had news to blog, but it's been pretty quiet.  Other than all the chores associated with getting ready for the move, not much has been going on.  I've tried a couple of times to write a blog entry in the last few days, but I would always end up asking myself, "Well what do I write about?  The only semi-exciting things that have happened lately just make me look like a bigger geek than I already am, like..."
  • having found free screen capture software which records whatever you're doing on your screen and your narration (via desktop microphone) at the same time--which will work great for automating systems training.
  • finding a free equivalent of MS Visio--which is great for diagramming flowcharts and org charts.
See what I mean?  Geekazoid :-).  I'm sure I'll have more news soon--there's sure to be lots of activity closer to the actual moving date :-).
