One of my most treasured memories

It was Sunday. Noon. I was 18 and on vacation visiting my grandparents. I think I was reading a book on the sofa, and my grandmother was sewing. It was a lazy day, quiet--save the sound of the radio playing old tunes. You could even hear the wind through the screen windows.

Then "Moonlight Serenade" comes on. You could tell it was from a vinyl record--the sound was scratchy, and the band sounded a little warbled.

My grandfather comes in from the kitchen and, without a word, takes my grandmother by the hand and they start to dance in the middle of the living room floor.

I watched them dance. For that one song, nothing else in the world existed. You could see it in their eyes. It was just him, her, and how they felt about each other.

I still choke up when I hear Moonlight Serenade.
