Ikebana
Current Mood: CC is listening to: American Dad I put together an ikebana arrangement to help me relax while I'm in Cebu. It didn't turn out too bad for someone who's out of practice :-). The tallest stem is a banana stalk :-).
Current Mood: CC is listening to: "Memory" --Cebu Waterfront hotel lobby lounge piano I've been sitting at the hotel lobby for about 4 hours. At least three sets of people have sat at the tables around me. As for myself, I have not gotten up except to get my glasses from my room. The rest of the time I'm on my butt alternately reading and typing. My laptop is surrounded by books, and I'm using the lobby as my personal study hall.
And I'm loving every minute of it :-). I could go on doing this all night (I'll need to get up to go to the bathroom sometime, though) :-).
I have a job that allows me to learn more about myself so that I can teach others better. I have a boss who is a great role model that encourages me and is excited about my development. I have an opportunity to use what I'm good at to help develop the potential in others.
...I'm being PAID for this :-)? How freaking awesome is THAT :-)?
Current Mood: CC is listening to: more Japanese TV I was able to meet up with friends and family this weekend. I was able to see my grandmother, one of my uncles and his two little girls. I haven't seem them in YEARS. We had a nice lunch and walked around the mall a bit :-).
Then on Sunday I met up with Tatin, one of my co-workers when I was at Futurekids :-). We also had lunch and had a great time catching up.
The seminars are doing all right--after every run I think of things that would make it better next time and make changes accordingly.
I miss Steve and the doggies something awful. Don't get me wrong, it's great here. My company really went the extra mile to make sure I have a *very* comfortable stay. I'm extremely grateful :-).
I can certainly understand though how many overseas workers feel when they have to be far away from their family. It's the little things you miss: grocery shopping, spending a lazy weekend morning in bed--I even miss my chores. How sad is *that?* :-)
I'm able to find productive outlets for myself, which is good. The gym downstairs is awesome. And I play with the K9 dog at the lobby every chance I get. Her name is Jessica and her handler has been very kind about letting me play with her :-). I love how she responds to me, too. I go down on one knee and start scratching the back of her ear and she just loves it :-). She keeps tilting her head into my hand until she finally falls over on her side and sticks her feet up in the air :-). I'll take pictures today so you can see :-).
It's neat that I'm able to use Yahoo voice to call Steve. I *could* use the company-issued phone, but that's not really an efficient use of company resources. On the other hand, if I use Yahoo Voice, I pay $10 and I get 3 hours to call Steve on his cellphone. 3 hours! What a deal :-). The only thing is that I have to use my computer to call him--it's VOIP.
I'm watching Japanese TV right now. Do I understand Japanese? Heck, no :-). But one of the things that Steve and I would love to do one day is visit Japan. And I know it sounds really corny, but watching Japanese TV in a hotel room kind of makes me feel I'm one step closer to achieving that :-). Plus it's easier to write when my brain isn't trying to understand what I hear :-). If I was watching something in English, I'd end up getting distracted :-).
Let me show you a video of Katya that I've been watching every day. This is her playing with one of our hamsters. Don't worry, the hamster was absolutely safe--I think she actually mothers it :-).
Current Mood: CC is listening to: Ninja Warriors game show You know you've got type A personality when you're all packed on Tuesday and your trip isn't until Friday :-).
Current Mood: CC is listening to: The Change--Garth Brooks (Fresh Horses) I'm putting up this week's video here instead of the sidebar so I can include other things than just the video itself.
This song makes me cry EVERY time. It's about an awful tragedy and how important it is to remember that we have to be stronger than the terrible things going on in the world. This video is about the 1995 Oklahoma City terrorist bombing. Among the casualties were 15 children from a day-care center.
The Change Garth Brooks One hand Reaches out-- And pulls a lost soul from harm. While a thousand more go unspoken for They say, "What good have you done By saving just this one? It's like whispering a prayer In the fury of a storm."
And I hear them saying, "You'll never change things-- no matter what you do it's still the same thing." But it's not the world that I am changing I do this so this world will know That it will not change me
This heart Still believes The love and mercy still exist While all the hatreds rage and so many say That love is all but pointless in madness such as this It's like trying to stop a fire With the moisture from a kiss
And I hear them saying, "You'll never change things, And no matter what you do it's still the same thing." But it's not the world that I am changing I do this so this world will know That it will not change me
As long as one heart still holds on, Then hope is never really gone...
I hear them saying, "You'll never change things, And no matter what you do it's still the same thing." But it's not the world that I am changing I do this so this world we know Never changes me
What I do is so This world will know That it will not change me
Current Mood: CC is listening to: Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered--Sinead O'Connor (Am I Not Your Girl?) ABC is rumored to be creating a comedy pilot based on Geico's Caveman commercials :-). I'm not sure if the format will stand up to a half an hour, but they're HILARIOUS as commercials :-)...
The commercial that started it all...
Sequels to the first commercial... they're all so funny :-). This next one's my favorite: his frustration at the end always cracks me up :-).
Current Mood: CC is listening to: If I Had You--Diana Krall (All for You: A Dedication) {sneezes for the fifth time in a row... blows my nose, shakes my head as I toss the latest addition onto the pile of used tissues} Geez. Who would've thought a human being could carry so much snot?
Let's see, latest news. I'll be going to the Philippines for about a month next week :-). My company is launching a new office in Cebu and I'll be staying there conducting seminars for the remainder of April. Then I'm flying to Manila for about a week in May, when the *Manila* office is celebrating its 5th year anniversary :-). I guess that means I'll be celebrating my fifth year with the company this year too :-).
Poor Steve's not looking forward to the idea of being in charge of the bills and laundry while I'm gone. What he REALLY hates though is that he'll have to make his own adobo and menudo :-).
{thinks about adobo and menudo... remembers I have leftover kare-kare in the fridge... starts to want kare-kare, particularly the meat... remembers that it's Good Friday} Doggone it.
Easter Sunday we are SO pigging out :-). Texas de Brazil is having an Easter thing where you get 50% off your full dinner price if you eat between the hours of 11-12am and 8:30-9:30pm.
Yeah, we'll be eating meat with a vengeance :-).
{thinks about it}...I guess I could take out the meat in the kare-kare :-)...
You Know You've Spent Too Much Time in the South when...
Current Mood: CC is listening to: Nothing right now You know you've spent too much time in the South when, in the middle of reading your grocery list aloud, your spouse stops you and says, "Oh my God--did you just say haingers?"
