Spoiling myself

Current Mood:

I have a penchant for bath and shower gels :-). I've got at least 7 different scents at home.

Amber and I went to the mall yesterday and I asked if it was okay for us to go into the Bath and Body Works store.

Bad idea :-).

I walked out of there with two new bath gels. I wish my blog had a scratch 'n' sniff feature because I'd love to show you just how good these two smell.

I got a bubble bath in Cotton Blossom (I know, the picture here is Cucumber Melon but that was the only graphic I could find), and I got this Creme Brulee honey bath.

Oh MAN if you ever walk by a Bath and Body Works store, you have to smell that Tutti Dolci Creme Brulee jar. It's so caramelly and sweet and because it's a honey bath, it'll moisturize your skin too :-). I guess decadent would be the word that comes to mind when you smell it :-).

The Cotton Blossom bubble bath, on the other hand, smells really clean and fresh :-). I couldn't decide between the two, so I got them both :-).

And I thought I was so smart...

Current Mood:

It made perfect sense. Amber and I bought tv dinners yesterday at Walmart. We don't have refrigerators in our rooms. I said, "Well, it's snowing outside...it's freezing enough. Why don't we just stack our tv dinners against our windows?"

It was so smart... we'd open our windows to let the cold air come in, stack the tv dinners against the screen, then shut the drapes so the cold air stays cold.

Woke up this morning and guess what I found.

Mmhmm...soggy, drippy tv dinners :-). Luckily the front desk was willing to let me put them in their freezer :-).

Coming down with something

Current Mood:

I think Amber and I are both coming down with the flu. Our throats hurt and we both keep sneezing all the time. Probably caused by the weather.

My joints hurt too. That's how I can tell that it's the flu and not just a cold.

I've been... {ahchoo...scuse me}...eating more oranges lately though so hopefully that'll help some.

GMail account, anyone?

Current Mood:

GMail sent out 4 more invitations, and I had 3 in my waiting list. There's one invite left :-). If you want it, send me your name and email and I'll forward the invitation to you :-). If the invitation's been taken, I'll keep your email on my GMail waiting list :-).

A little breathing room

Current Mood:

I don't have any meetings this morning--I was able to sleep in, which was great :-). I can concentrate on curriculum development until I meet Amber for lunch at 1. We're going to Cracker Barrel :-).

After six days of fast food, a sit-down meal sounds REALLY appealing :-).

Day 3

Current Mood:

Can't stay, gotta get ready for work/class :-). We're on day 3 and it's moving along well :-). I'm still getting used to staying awake til midnight though. The class is from 3:30 to midnight. The past two days I get REALLY sleepy around 10pm.

Then again, for someone who's usually asleep by 6 or 7 pm, being awake at 10pm is a feat in itself :-)...

Funny Fortunes

Current Mood:

I ordered Chinese food the other day and it came with two fortune cookies :-). I thought I'd share my fortunes--they were kind of funny :-).

The first one said, "You will travel far and wide both for pleasure and business." I thought that was particularly apt since I'm in Nebraska :-).

The second one said, "Be moderate where pleasure is concerned. Avoid fatigue."

Hmmm :-).

New sneakers

Current Mood:

I bought new sneakers at the mall today :-). I didn't notice that the sneakers I wore coming into Nebraska had gashes along the side. If I wanted to, I could make my sock stick out the gash :-). I figured that was a sign I needed to get a new pair :-).

I got these black and beige leather airwalk sneakers at Payless. They were on sale, $17.

I would've preferred to get the $7 ones, but they had such thick soles. I was afraid that if I fell off one of those things it would be a long way to the ground :-).

Got in okay :-)...

Current Mood:

Amber got in at around 11:45 pm, and she's just fine :-). More importantly, her luggage got to Omaha just fine too :-). I was kind of worried about that--with all the shuffling that's been going on, I was afraid it'd get lost. It probably got here before she did :-).

Tomorrow we're going shopping, so that's going to be fun :-)...

Poor Amber

Current Mood:

Poor Amber. She's not here yet. She's just been going through one delay after the other:
  • First of all her flight out of Japan and into Detroit was delayed for some reason.
  • Then Detroit had weather problems and her flight out of Detroit was delayed 2 hours.
  • Close to the end of the second hour, they shut down the airport!
  • She finally got a flight OUT of Detroit, but it'll fly her to St. Paul, Minnesota first and THEN to Omaha.
  • THEN there was a water main break at the tower. So flights have been... you guessed it... delayed!
  • When she finally got on the plane for St. Paul, they were stuck on the runway for 2 hours before the plane actually left Detroit.
The poor girl. I mean, this is the kind of thing you only hear about in sitcoms. You never thought it'd happen in real life. I'll keep you posted on what happens next.

Waiting for Amber

Current Mood:

I just checked the status of Amber's flight to Omaha. It's been delayed by about 15 minutes. She's flying in from Detroit and today Detroit's getting a *lot* of snow.

So in the meantime I'm watching Stephen King's Rose Red. They just arrived at the haunted house. Looks like the movie's going to get scarier from here on in :-).

Made it!

Current Mood:

I am SO relieved. I was feeling confident that I could do this until I got in the car :-). Then I got nervous :-).

I got even MORE nervous when I thought I had missed my exit. I had to pull out of the highway, park at a Denny's, and call Steve.

"I think I'm lost!" I wailed.

Looking at the next steps in the Yahoo map guide though, I realized that I was actually in the right place :-). I just needed to go further down the road to get to my exit :-).

The flight out of Chicago was late by about two hours though. The weather started getting bad and the plane we were flying out of Chicago in was delayed getting in.

Tomorrow I'm picking up Amber. I'm a little nervous because I'm going in the opposite direction, but at least I have a general idea of where I need to go and how long it takes to get there :-).

My favorite breakfast food

Current Mood:

Have you ever tried Kellogg's Eggo French Toaster Sticks (cinnamon flavor)? Man, those things are GOOD :-). Plunk a couple in a toaster, and in a minute or two your kitchen smells of cinnamon french toast :-).

And then you lather them with maple syrup... {drools like Homer Simpson}

Created sidebar titles

Current Mood:

I wanted to create a consistent look for my sidebar contents so I created sidebar titles :-). Those titles are actually graphics to make sure everyone sees the same thing (if we don't have the same font installed in our machines it'll look different).

...yeah, I think that looks better :-).

Adding current moods in your blog

Current Mood:

Many friends have asked me how I put the "Current Mood" emoticons in my blog. I actually go in and mess with html a little. It's not a very user-friendly method :-).

I was surfing through other people's blogs (which is great for getting ideas), and I learned that there's an alternative way to add a current mood :-).

You'll need to sign up for a free account at imood. It'll allow you to display what your mood is today (sample sites: K: Aquí y ahora, The Year of the Teacher). You'll still need to paste the script into your blog's html, but this method seems to be a little easier than how I do it :-).

I won't be using it myself, but I hope this helps those who want to add current mood emoticons in their blogs :-).

"Tell me about your mother..."

Current Mood:

Don't mind me. That last blog was kind of therapeutic, so I'm going to go ahead and psychoanalyze myself :-). Putting my thoughts in writing requires a certain logic, and it sort of exposes to me how illogical my fears are :-). This is mostly for my own benefit, so you don't have to read this entry :-). I'm just going to be talking to myself :-).

Okay here I go...

{starts to think} You know, some people would be excited at the thought of having one extra free day in a new place. I arrive Friday, Amber arrives Saturday, I can do whatever I want on Friday.

Okay, it's probably going to be freezing and I won't be in the mood to go anywhere, but if I wanted to, I could.

And okay, so I'm scared about driving by myself. But you know what? There's no getting around it. It has to happen that way. It's not doing me any good to be petrified about it. I've printed the maps to and from places, I've got emergency phone numbers to call, I've got phone numbers of Nebraska taxi cabs--there's really nothing else I can do in the way of preparing myself.

And I don't have the luxury to be afraid anyway. If I'm in this state when I get there, I'm going to be so preoccupied about being afraid that it IS going to affect my driving and judgement. If I want to make this work, I better have my head on my shoulders.

{takes a deep breath and reads what I just wrote} Wow, that really helped :-).

Bravado

Current Mood:

Have you ever reached that point where you've been afraid of things and then you just become SO tired of being afraid and running that you finally turn around, make a stand, and say, "Okay I'm here, bring it on!" ?

...I'm not there yet :-). I'm in the general neighborhood, though :-).

I know it doesn't make sense to be afraid, I was just IN Omaha two weeks ago.

You know that feeling where you're about to make a speech and you're so nervous that you think you're going to throw up but when you actually get OUT there and got started, it didn't turn out to be so bad?

It's probably going to be like that for me :-).

I'm excited for him--this is going to be fun :-).

Driving by myself

Current Mood:

Somehow communications got crossed: instead of me and another co-worker arriving in Omaha on the same day and traveling to the hotel together, I'm landing in Omaha on Friday and she's landing on Saturday.

That means I have to get the rental car by myself and get to the hotel by myself. Then I have to go back to the airport the next day and pick her up. It's half an hour between the airport and the hotel.

I was sort of counting on us being together so she could be my navigator. I'm so afraid I'll get lost or I'll end up committing a traffic violation because the place is so unfamiliar to me. I get disoriented SO easily.

Steve keeps telling me that this is nothing to worry about; that I'll be fine. God, I hope so.

Deadlines

Current Mood:

I had a lunch meeting with the company president today. Just her and me. We talked about training and what the outline's going to be and certification measures and things like that.

Teresa's such a great boss. She worked with me and guided me and now it's going to be much easier for me to put the training together :-). We were at lunch for like, 3 and a half hours and neither of us realized it.

The deadline is still driving me crazy--the plan is due on Thursday, and there are other things that also need my attention--but I don't feel as panicked about it now than I did when this week started.

Still my favorite poem :-)...

Current Mood:

I was looking through some of my old websites and came across some poetry that Steve wrote for me a long time ago :-). This one is still my favorite poem :-).

If I hadn't mentioned it yet, Steve and I met on the Internet in early 1996. I was new to chatting then and way too naïve--one of the other guys in the chatroom started getting a little too brazen with me. Steve stepped in and saved the day :-).

Steve and I lost touch for 6 months because of Daylight Saving Time: the U.S. practiced it, Manila didn't. By the time he was logging into the chatroom, I was already gone.

Anyway, he wrote this poem for me about 2 months after we "re-met." I was seeing someone else at the time and didn't know what I really wanted. Even after 8 years, this poem still pulls at my heartstrings :-).
For the Lady Cecille

The Lady Cecille Catanghal
Did find me after the downfall
Of yet another romance gone awry.
'Twas several months since we'd first met
And I never thought I'd see her, yet
There she was before my very eye.

We laughed about our first encounter
The cad and his advances towards her
Which I did stop with gallant chivalry.
That second night we vowed right then
That never should it be again
Our lives apart. So bridge the gap did we.

And in the time since the revival
Of our relationship came the arrival
Of a friendship, but also something more.
It's undefined but very strong.
It's something for which we both long.
Yet we hesitate to open that one door.

Instead we talk about the day
And sometimes get together to play
Cute little games which set our childhood free.
And other times we're all romance
And wonder, "If fate provides the chance,
Is this how life for us would be?"

I like to think that yes, it would
Be that exciting and it could.
My fantasy life with her it knows no bounds.
We laugh, we dine, we dance, we love
A passion inspired from above
With a woman who looks as lovely as she sounds.

Yet how to tell the maiden fair
All those things that I not dare,
Words that my lips simply cannot speak?
It can't be wrong. It feels so right.
But when we part for the night,
All I can say is "See you next week."

Visio's so cool :-)...

Current Mood:

I've heard of the software Microsoft Visio, but I really didn't know what it could do until yesterday. That's one WAY cool piece of software.

I use flowcharts a lot when I explain processes, and I used to create flowcharts in MS Word. It would take FOREVER.

MS Visio makes it SO much easier. Basically what it is is a diagramming program. It helps you create flowcharts, maps, charts--anything that requires pictures and arrows :-).

...I like Visio .

I was visiting my blog stats and looking through the history, I discovered that while http://ccslish.blogspot.com is the actual web address, typing www.ccslish.blogspot.com (which sounds cooler :-)) automatically forwards you to the site :-).

{practices} "Yes, you can visit my blog at www.ccslish.blogspot.com." :-)

I want to say thanks to the blog visitor who accessed my site that way :-). Thank you, whoever you are :-)...

Slowly but surely...

Current Mood:

Okay, two down, lots more to go.

I don't know how Teresa does it. She can go to up to 48 hours without sleep. I've seen her go 36. This usually happens when we've got a client visit and she's doing presentation revisions, things like that.

This is my last weekend in Memphis so aside from getting all the work stuff done, I'll also need to do my last-minute shopping. I should also look into perhaps getting a license next week: my license expires on February 1 and that kind of messes things up for the Omaha trip since I'm the only one with a valid license until the 4th.

{suddenly realizes} Yikes, I also have to finalize the testing procedure for my incoming assistant.

I'm sure in the future I'm going to look back on these days with fondness. But right now it ain't looking so fun :-).

...Make it stop..!

Current Mood:

WAAAAAH My brain feels SOOO fried! There's just SO much to do!

{tries to think rationally, talks to self} Okay calm down. You've been up since 1am. You're getting overemotional. Breathe. Don't fight it. Let it pass.

Have I ever told you that I read this book called From Panic to Power? If you've ever considered yourself a perfectionist and an obsessive worrier who's terrified to fail, this book is for you. It really helps reframe your thinking.

The trick is being aware of when you're panicking and walking yourself through the re-framing :-).

Current Mood:

Remember when I said that I predict a lot of sleepless nights getting ready for the client's launch in Manila? It's started. And I don't think it's going to stop until the actual start date, which is in March. There's just so much to do and so little time to do it.

I shouldn't complain, though. I got a good 5 hours' sleep. Teresa and Louis are probably operating on less. Besides, for a lot of people, 5 hours is normal :-).

...okay maybe 6 :-).

Funny Site

Current Mood:

There's this site called the Advertising Slogan Generator where you type a word (usually your name) and it gets put into a popular slogan. I tried it out and it came up with some pretty funny ones:
  1. What Can Cecille Do For You?
  2. Tough on Dirt, Gentle on Cecille
  3. Only a Fool Breaks the Cecille

A small consolation :-)...

Current Mood:

I just found out that the flamenco that's going to be done at the concert isn't going to be Nuevo Flamenco. How do I know that? I looked at the performer, and it's my Memphis teacher :-).

I STILL want to see the concert though :-).

Isn't that always the case?

Current Mood:

I love Nuevo Flamenco. I used to go to Flamenco classes here in Memphis (and I have yet to use up my remaining 6 classes--thank goodness my sessions don't expire), but I think the kind of Flamenco being taught is different from the kind that I'm used to in Manila.

My teacher in Manila (GinaJane Grey) takes a lot of her influence from her gypsy teachers, so when we do Flamenco it's really passionate and raw and emotional. Over here the flamenco is less so. Don't get me wrong, it's still pretty, but the high energy is what I love--and miss--most about it.

By the way, if you don't know what Flamenco dancing is, it's that Spanish dance where you have that big flowing skirt and you use castanets and noisy shoes :-).

Anyway, we just got a flyer in the mail from the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. They're doing a concert called Prism where they showcase music around the world: from Celtic fiddling and bagpipes to world drumming. There are even free pre-concert activities. One of the activities is--you guessed it--flamenco dancing. I would LOVE to see this concert.

The show is on January 23. I leave for Nebraska January 21.

Added a counter

Current Mood:

I decided to add a counter last night so I can keep track of my blog's visits :-).

One of the sites that Blogger recommends is StatCounter. It's actually really neat: you sign up for an account, set up your counter, then paste it in your blog's script.

What you'll see on your blog is a count of how many times people have viewed it, but if you access your StatCounter account, you can see how many are returning visitors, how many are viewing it for the first time, things like that :-). It can even tell you if people are viewing your site from other countries :-).

Now THAT'S cool :-). Or, as Paris Hilton says, "That's hot." :-)

Drove all by myself

Current Mood:

Yesterday Steve had to wait for the windows installation guy to arrive at 8:30 and replace the older windows in the house. Unfortunately, that's also around the time he takes me to work.

So yesterday I drove to and from work all by myself :-). That may not sound like such a feat, but it is for me :-). There are so many things that I'm not used to doing: coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, waiting for my turn at a 4-way intersection, using the turn lane in the middle of the road, knowing when I CAN turn even if the light is red, using my turn signal even when I just want to switch to the next lane...

I guess you can pretty much surmise that we don't really follow those rules when driving in Manila :-).

I don't feel too good...

Current Mood:

I feel nauseous. And I have a headache. It's probably nerves--Steve says that this is about the right time for me to be a little more emotional.

I shouldn't be nervous. Teresa is giving me an assistant and she's impressed with my work. I don't know--I guess it makes me feel like people expect so much more of me now when they see what I can do. And when people expect more, it's easier to fall short of their expectations.

Funny... and a little spooky

Current Mood:

I bought a new purse today, so Steve and I were letting Katya play with my old purse. She looked really cute--like she was going to go shopping :-).

I took more than one picture, and in choosing the right one for the blog, I came across something weird.

Many paranormal experts talk about orbs. Orbs are little blobs of light that show up on pictures that indicate the possibility of paranormal presence. You can have several orbs in one shot, or you can have just one. This orb is just above the pillow behind Katya.

Steve thinks that it's a lens glare. It probably is. I looked at other orb pictures on the web though, and many of them look like what I've got.

Cool jackets!

Current Mood:

Steve got me my birthday present early since I'll be in Omaha at the time--he got me this REALLY cool Incredibles jacket that we've both been eyeing since Christmas :-). It was on sale, and it was the last medium on the rack so he just HAD to get it :-).

We went to Wolfchase today so I could buy stuff to keep me warm on my next trip to Omaha. We looked at the Disney store just to check and whaddaya know, ANOTHER medium Incredibles jacket! Also the last on the rack :-). So I just HAD to get it for HIM :-). Now we match :-).

I'm HOME :-D!

Current Mood:

Oh MAN I'm so happy to be home. I've missed everyone a LOT: Steve, mom and dad, the doggies :-)...

The meeting with the client was great! Everyone was so open and friendly and truly looking at the project as a partnership.

There's going to be a gazillion things that need to be done. I predict sleepless nights.

On the way home on the plane, I finally got a chance to show Teresa the stuff I've been doing on Authorware.

Remember how excited I was about Authorware when I first realized what it could do for training? (If you want to go back and see, click here, wait for the page to load, then look at my entries dated November 10 and 11). She reacted exactly the same way. SHE was excited. Her mind was going a mile a minute because of Authorware's potential. In that one hour plane ride home she already made several business decisions based on what I showed her.

It's SO thrilling (and reassuring) when the company president is happy and excited with your work :-). Our conversation started as president/subordinate, then evolved into a meeting of the minds. It was fabulous :-).

Next Omaha trip: 3 weeks

Current Mood:

I just found out today that I'll be coming back to Omaha on January 22 to be part of training. And this time I'll be staying for three weeks, until February 12.

On one hand it's really exciting--the business side of me can't wait to be a part of our client's growth. Everyone's pumped and enthusiastic and we can't wait to get started :-).

The personal side of me is a little bummed though because that means Steve and I won't be together for three weeks.

Then again, when I think about it, I'm only going to be three states away. That's MUCH closer than being half a world away.

Ah'm in Omaha

Current Mood:

Thank goodness for complimentary hi-speed internet access :-).

And thank goodness for the free wireless card that came with my laptop :-).

It's snowing nicely here in Nebraska. It's fluffy snow this time, not like the sleet we had in Memphis last week. I'm glad I brought my sweater, jacket and wool coat :-). I have a feeling I'll need all of it in the next couple of days :-)...
